Human sperm motility anomaly showing sluggish movement, changes in direction and marked curling flagellation . Phase contrast x400, Leica DM2500, on a wet preparation of a live motile sample, no staining (this would kill the sperm). The anomaly can only be photographed properly whilst the sperm are moving and hence there will never be a completely sharp, focussed picture.
Human semen sample showing the effects of a long term sex and ejaculation addiction: few sperm and many precursors. Phase contrast x400, Leica DM2500, on a wet preparation of a live motile sample, no staining (the fixation process removes some of the elements and viewing it under oil at x1000 never gives the same impact as viewing it live at x400). The result of long term sex and ejaculation addiction is a marked demand exceeding supply situation in the testes. Very few mature sperm remain and the testes give up sperm precursors.
