The 5th of December sees the start of the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium 2017, in Texas, USA. This is the 40th anniversary of the scientific meeting organised by SABCS.

The mission of the symposium, since its inception in 1977, is to provide healthcare professionals with the latest information in breast cancer research. Having evolved from a one-day regional conference to a five-day international programme, the SABCS 2017 is ideal for academic and private researchers, physicians and students alike.

The scientific programme, available from the official event website, incorporates plenary lectures and mini-symposia, with presentations, educational sessions, award lectures, panel discussions, case discussions and forums.

Topics covered include:

  • Novel statistical clinical trial designs
  • Accelerated partial breast irradiation: Update of an ASTRO consensus guideline
  • Place as a cause of breast cancer disparities in Appalachia
  • The breast tumour microenvironment: a target for therapy
  • Potential of radiation therapy to convert the tumour into an in situ vaccine
  • Ex vivo modelling of breast cancer
