World Asthma Day aims to raise awareness, to provide care and support for those affected by asthma and extending this to their family, friends and caregivers.

Asthma is a chronic disease of the lungs affecting over 300 million people globally. It causes breathing difficulty whereby sufferers may experience breathlessness, coughing, wheezing and tightness in the chest. Each year 250,000 deaths worldwide are attributed to asthma.

World Asthma Day (WAD) is an annual, global event set up by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and is supported by the World Asthma Foundation (WAF). There is a call-to-action for ‘Better Air, Better Breathing' for this year's campaign. Activities run in support of WAD can be submitted to feature on the GINA Facebook page and Twitter feed. Further information can be found by on the GINA and WAF websites and by visiting the Symptomatic Asthma Knowledge Centre at Medthority.com (please note this resource is not available to users in the US or UK).
