24 April marks World Meningitis Day
Meningitis is a potentially deadly disease which annually affects more than 1 million people worldwide, indiscriminate of age. At its worst, meningitis can cause death within 24 hours and so the theme for 2017 is ’24 Hours – Trust your instincts’. CoMo aim to help people to recognise the signs and symptoms of the disease in themselves and in others, and to raise awareness of the vaccines available to prevent some of the forms of meningitis. Their message: ‘Trust your instincts’ – because fever, rash, vomiting, headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to light or drowsiness are tell-tale signs which should not be dismissed.
