The FDA cleared the Flex Robotic System from Medrobotics in July 2015. Now the company has raised $25 million to launch the system for sale to US hospitals. With its flexible scope, it is intended to provide an alternative to traditional line-of-sight approaches used to access and visualise the oropharynx, hypopharynx and larynx.

The system is the first robot-assisted surgical platform with a flexible scope that has been cleared by the FDA for use during transoral procedures.

Comment: On 18 March 2014 Medrobotics received the CE mark for the Flex System and is launching the product in select European markets.
