Prevenar 13 approved in Japan for older adults-Pfizer

Prevenar 13 (Pneumococcal 13-valent Conjugate Vaccine), from Pfizer, has been granted approval in Japan for the prevention of Pneumococcal Disease caused by 13 S. pneumoniae serotypes (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F) in adults 65 years of age and older. This expanded indication will make it possible for elderly people to be immunized with a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine for the first time in Japan.
