Faculty

Professor Kian Fan Chung

Professor Kian Fan Chung MD, DSc is Professor of Respiratory Medicine and Head of Experimental Studies Medicine at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. He is a consultant respiratory physician at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, London. Professor Chung’s current interests are focused on the role of airway smooth muscle and the effects of oxidant stress on muscle function; on the energetics of airway smooth muscle function; and on the mechanisms underlying corticosteroid resistance. He has an interest in chronic cough, the cough hypersensitivity syndrome and in developing new treatments for this condition. Professor Chung is a senior investigator at the UK National Institute for Health Research and serves on the editorial boards of Respirology, Lancet Respiratory Medicine and the European Journal of Pharmacology.

Disclosures: Professor Chung reports receiving research grants through Imperial College from GSK on asthma and from Merck Sharp & Dohme on chronic cough. He has participated in advisory board meetings for GSK, AstraZeneca, Novartis, Roche, Merck Sharp & Dohme, Rickett-Beckinson, Nocion and Shionogi on asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic cough. He has undertaken speaking engagements for Sanofi, Novartis, AstraZeneca and Merck Sharp & Dohme. He is on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Clean Breathing Institute supported by Haleon. He obtained educational support from Merck Sharp & Dohme to his institution for the 12th London International Cough Symposium held in July 2022.

Associate Professor Marta Maria Dąbrowska 

Professor Marta Maria Dąbrowska MD, PhD, DSc is Associate Professor at the Department of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Allergy, Medical University of Warsaw, Poland. Her research interests include the management of adults with chronic cough, chest imaging and bronchoscopy. Professor Dabrowska is a leader of the cough clinic in the Department of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Allergy, Medical University of Warsaw, and is the Polish National Lead in NEUROCOUGH, European Respiratory Society (ERS) Clinical Research Collaboration.

Professor Alyn Morice

Professor Alyn Hugh Morice MD, FRCP, FBPhS was appointed Foundation Chair, and Professor and Head of Respiratory Research Group, Hull York Medical School, University of Hull, UK in 1998. He has pioneered investigation into the epidemiology, diagnosis and therapeutics of cough, culminating in the production of national and ERS cough guidelines (ERJ 2020). His research on the neuronal mechanisms has improved our understanding leading to the concept of cough hypersensitivity, which has been translated by randomised controlled trials into therapeutic advances (opiates and P2X3 antagonists).
