Hyperammonaemia Knowledge Centre

Welcome to the Hyperammonaemia Knowledge Centre. In this Knowledge Centre we provide an overview of hyperammonaemia and its metabolic causes including epidemiology, diagnosis, management and treatment options.

Hyperammonaemia (or hyperammonemia) is a condition associated with a number of inherited disorders. If not recognised and treated urgently it causes severe and permanent damage to the brain and the central nervous system. In order to provide optimal care for patients, it is essential that healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and management of hyperammonaemia have a thorough understanding of this condition.
