Dr Yerly outlines the treatment journey of a patient with AdHF and clarifies its definition according to two key positional papers. Find out about the criteria patients must meet before they are referred with AdHF and the importance of early referral. Review the four options for long-term management of AdHF and discover their advantages and disadvantages. Focus is given to levosimendan and the potential benefits that arise from it not being a standard inotrope -  its calcium sensitiser, vasodilator and cardioprotective effects are highlighted. The presentation also examines the current Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology position paper for levosimendan and the encouraging results from recent and on-going trials.
