Gianfranco Parati received his medical degree in 1977 at the University of Milan, Italy, and specialised in cardiology and in internal medicine at Milan University Hospital. In 1991 he took a one-year sabbatical as a Visiting Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Health Science and Technology department, and at Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
Dr Parati is a research fellow and clinical associate at the Istituto Auxologico Italiano & University of Milano, a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and ex officio member of the ESH Council. He is chairman of the ESH Working Group on BP Monitoring and Cardiovascular Variability, president of the Italian Society of Hypertension, professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Milano-Bicocca (Milan, Italy) and head of the Cardiology Unit, and of the Department of Cardiovascular, Neural and Metabolic Medicine and Rehabilitation Sciences in S. Luca Hospital, Istituto Auxologico Italiano (Milan, Italy). Dr Parati is also director of the School of Specialisation in Cardiovascular Medicine, University of Milano-Bicocca.
Dr Parati’s research interests include autonomic cardiovascular modulation, blood pressure measurement and monitoring, telemedicine, hypertension pathophysiology and management, heart failure, space research and high altitude research, and clinical pharmacology.
Dr Parati is executive editor of the Journal of Hypertension, associate editor of Hypertension Research and has more than 700 papers published in peer review journals or as book chapters.
