Prof. B. Waeber is the retired Chief of the Division of Clinical Pathophysiology and Director of the Clinical Research Center at Lausanne University Hospital, Switzerland. He earned his medical degree from the Geneva School of Medicine. His postgraduate training focused on internal medicine, particularly hypertension and nephrology, at university medical centres in Switzerland and the United States. Prof. B. Waeber has been involved in clinical and experimental research for the past three decades.
His main topics of interest are the renin-angiotensin system, drug development, blood pressure monitoring and compliance with antihypertensive therapy. He is a member of a number of professional societies, including the European Society of Hypertension, the International Society of Hypertension and the Council on High Blood Pressure of the American Heart Association, and serves on the editorial board of several scientific journals. Prof. B. Waeber has been a member of the Council of the European Society of Hypertension from 1991 to 1997 and contributed to the writing of several international guidelines in the field of hypertension. He received in 2009 the Lennart Hansson Award delivered by the European Society of Hypertension. He has written more than 600 original research papers, editorials, reviews and chapters in books, and more than 200 papers dealing with postgraduate education
