Resources to assist management of your patients with cardiovascular disease

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the primary cause of death worldwide.1 It is vital that patients at risk of CVD are identified and appropriately treated to prevent future cardiovascular events. However, detection of those at risk of a cardiovascular event can be problematic because there are often no underlying symptoms. According to the American Heart Association (2009); 50% of men and 64% of women who died suddenly of coronary heart disease had no previous symptoms.2,3

The EUROASPIRE III study was conducted to evaluate cardiovascular health and its management – including blood pressure, lipid profile and lifestyle factors – in Europe. The investigators concluded that despite considerable improvement from previous surveys, lipid treatment goals were not being achieved in a substantial proportion (42.7%) of patients receiving lipid-lowering treatment.4

The ultimate goal of lipid-lowering therapy is cardiovascular event reduction, and the Cholesterol Knowledge Centre provides you with a wide range of resources to help you with your management strategy for CVD.
