The control and management of infections in hospitals is an area of growing interest, and not just for doctors who specialise in this area. Hospital managers, pharmacists, and policymakers are finding themselves at the centre of a complex and fast-changing disease area. There’s also a growing number of healthcare professionals in the front line of the fight against serious infections, including transplant surgeons, haematologists, intensivists, nurses, and microbiologists.
For doctors, patients and their relatives, and for taxpayers carrying the economic burden of serious infections, the stakes are high. C. difficile and invasive candidiasis often lead to extended stays in hospital, disrupting treatment programmes, and in many cases, threatening the lives of patients.
The Knowledge Network brings together the expertise and experience of a variety of leaders in this field. Presentations of research findings and clinical insights, along with news and views from many of the major congresses, treatment guidelines, and suggested further reading, are intended to inform and widen the debate.
The Knowledge Network is an initiative by Astellas Pharma Europe, whose current global programme of research and development aims to build on an already strong heritage in this area of medicine. As a committed partner, Astellas hopes this initiative will help knowledge to be shared, supporting the community of healthcare professionals and policymakers, and ultimately improving the lives of patients.
News and educational resources from ECCMID, ISICEM and the Symposium at the Institut Pasteur is already available within the Anti-infectives Knowledge Network. Coming soon will be resources from a number of key congresses including EBMT, ICCN and ISHAM.
