| Drug description : | White tablets. |
| Presentation : | Tablets, tizanidine (as hydrochloride) 2mg , 4mg . |
| Indications : | Spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury or disease. |
| Adult Dosage : | Initially 2 mg increasing in 2 mg increments at no less than 3 - 4 day intervals. Give in divided doses three or four times daily. Titrate according to response, usually up to 24 mg daily; maximum 36 mg daily in divided doses. |
| Contra Indications : | Hypersensitivity to tizanidine or any other component. Hepatic impairment. |
| Special Precautions : | Renal impairment. Perform liver tests monthly for first 4 months; discontinue if enzymes 3 x the upper limit of normal. Pregnancy, lactation. |
| Interactions : | Diuretics, b-blockers, antihypertensives, digoxin, oral contraceptives, CNS depressants, drugs known to increase the QT interval. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth, GI upset, hypotension, insomnia, bradycardia, hallucinations. Raised liver enzymes, acute hepatitis. |
