| Generic Name : | Lisinopril - cardiac failure/MI |
| Drug description : | 2.5mg white tablet marked with heart shape and strength; 5mg pink scored tablet marked with heart shape and strength; 10mg pink tablet marked with heart shape, strength and trade mark; 20mg pink tablet marked with heart shape, strength and trade mark. |
| Presentation : | Tablets, lisinopril 2.5mg , 5mg , 10mg , 20mg . |
| Indications : | Adjunct to non-potassium sparing diuretics and digitalis in congestive heart failure. Acute myocardial infarction in haemodynamically stable patients to prevent development of left ventricular dysfunction or heart failure. |
| Adult Dosage : | Heart failure: Initially 2 .5 mg over 2 - 4 weeks to maintenance of 5 - 20 mg once daily. Reduce dose of any diuretic first. Initiate therapy under close medical supervision (in hospital for severe or unstable heart failure or high risk patients). Acute MI: Initially 5 mg may be given within 24 hours of onset of symptoms, then 5 mg after 24 hours, 10 mg after 48 hours. Thereafter 10 mg once daily for six weeks. |
| Child Dosage : | Not recommended. |
| Contra Indications : | Aortic stenosis, outflow obstruction, cor pulmonale. Angioneurotic oedema related to previous ACE-inhibitor therapy. Hereditary or idiopathic angioedema. Renal dysfunction. Pregnancy. Systolic BP <100mmHg in acute MI. |
| Special Precautions : | Renovascular hypertension, severe congestive heart failure, low systolic BP in acute MI, haemodialysis, renal impairment; monitor renal function before and during treatment. Anaesthesia. Lactation. |
| Interactions : | Other antihypertensives (eg, beta-blockers, diuretics), indometacin (indomethacin) and other NSAIDs, insulin, oral antidiabetic agents, lithium, K+- sparing diuretics, K + supplements. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Hypotension, renal failure, angioedema, rash, dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, cough, fatigue, palpitations, nausea, asthenia. |
