| Drug description : | Tavanic: Pale yellowish white to reddish white oblong f-c scored tablets. Tavanic Infusion: Solution. |
| Presentation : | Tavanic: levofloxacin 250 mg , 500 mg . Tavanic Infusion: levofloxacin 5 mg /mL. |
| Indications : | Tavanic tablets, infections of mild to moderate severity: acute sinusitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (AECB), community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), complicated urinary tract infection (UTI) (including pyelonephritis), skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI). Tavanic infusion: community acquired pneumonia, complicated urinary tract infection (including pyelonephritis), skin and soft tissue infections. |
| Adult Dosage : | Tavanic: Acute sinusitis, 500mg once daily; AECB, 250 - 500mg once daily; CAP, 500mg once daily or twice daily; complicated UTI, 250mg once daily; SSTI, 250mg once daily or 500mg once or twice daily. Tavanic Infusion: CAP, 500mg once or twice daily; complicated UTI, 250mg once daily; SSTI, 500mg twice daily. |
| Child Dosage : | Not recommended. |
| Contra Indications : | Epilepsy, fluoroquinolone related tendon disorders. Pregnancy, lactation. |
| Special Precautions : | Renal impairment, G-6-phosphate porphyria. Severe persistent diarrhoea (discontinue). Avoid strong UV light. |
| Interactions : | Iron salts, antacids, sucralfate, NSAIDs, fenbufen. (Also probenecid and cimetidine - but unlikely to be clinically relevant). |
| Adverse Reactions : | GI upset, raised liver enzymes. Rarely, tendon disorders (discontinue). |
