| Generic Name : | Imidapril hydrochloride |
| Drug description : | White oblong scored tablets. |
| Presentation : | Tablets, imidapril tablets 5mg , 10mg , 20mg . |
| Indications : | Treatment of essential hypertension. |
| Adult Dosage : | Initially 5mg once daily at the same time each day 15 minutes same time each day 15 minutes before a meal. If necessary, increase after 3 weeks to 10mg once daily; maximum, 20mg once daily. Correct any salt and volume depletion, and discontinue any diuretic 2-3 days before initiating therapy. |
| Child Dosage : | Not recommended. |
| Elderly Dosage : | Initially 2.5mg once daily at the same time each day 15 minutes before a meal. Titrate dose according to response; maximum 10mg once daily. |
| Contra Indications : | Hypersensitivity to imidapril or any other ACE inhibitor. History of angioneurotic oedema associated with previous ACE inhibitor therapy, hereditary or idiopathic angioedema, renovascular hypertension, renal failure with or without haemodialysis (creatinine clearance <10mL/minute). Pregnancy, lactation. |
| Special Precautions : | Risk of severe hypotension in volume depletion, hyponatraemia or cardiac failure. Renal impairment; monitor renal function before and during therapy. Hepatic impairment, aortic stenosis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, psoriasis. Surgery. Haemodialysis or apheresis with high-flux membranes. |
| Interactions : | K+ supplements, K+ sparing diuretics, lithium, anaesthetics, narcotics, antipsychotics, antihypertensive agents, allopurinol, cytostatics, immunosuppressants, systemic corticosteroids, NSAIDs, rifampicin, insulin, oral hypoglycaemics, antacids, sympathomimetics, procainamide. Desensitisation therapy to insect bites and stings. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Cough, dizziness, fatigue, GI upset, angioedema, severe hypotension, renal failure, hypersensitivity reactions. |
