| Indications : | Management of asthma, bronchospasm, reversible airways obstruction. |
| Adult Dosage : | Aerosol inhalation: 100-200 micrograms (one or two puffs); may use up to three or four times daily if required. Prophylaxis in exercise-induced bronchospasm, 200 micrograms (two puffs). Nebules: 2.5 - 5 mg up to four times daily via nebuliser. Syrup: 5 - 20 mL three or four times daily. Tablets: 4mg 3 - 4 times daily; maximum single dose, 8mg. |
| Child Dosage : | Aerosol inhalation: 100 micrograms (one puff) increased to two puffs if necessary. Prophylaxis in exercise-induced brochospasm, 100 micrograms (one puff). Nebules: 2.5 - 5 mg up to four times daily via nebuliser. recommended; 2 - 6 years, 2.5 - 5 mL; 6 - 12 years, 5 mL; over 12 years, 5 - 10 mL. All three or four times daily. Tablets: under 2 years, 100 micrograms/kg 4 times daily; 2 - 6 years, 1 - 2mg 3 - 4 times daily; 6 - 12 years, 2mg 3 - 4 times daily. |
| Elderly Dosage : | Tablets, initially 2mg 3 - 4 times daily. |
| Special Precautions : | Hyperthyroidism. Pregnancy and lactation. Arrhythmias, susceptibility to prolonged QT interval, hypertension. |
| Interactions : | b-blockers. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Paradoxical bronchospasm, fine tremor, tachycardia, headache, peripheral vasodilatation, palpitations. Rarely, muscle cramps. Hypersensitivity reactions reported. Hypokalaemia after high doses. |
