Medicine information : REHIDRAT (fluid loss)
 
Drug class description :  Fluid and electrolyte replacements (electrolyte combinations).
Generic Name :  Sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, glucose, sucrose, fructose - electrolyte and fluid replacement
Drug description :  Orange, blackcurrant or lemon/ lime flavoured powder.
Presentation :  Powder, sodium chloride 440 mg, potassium chloride 380 mg, sodium bicarbarbonate 420 mg, citric acid 440 mg, glucose 4.09 - 4.13 g, sucrose 8.07 - 8.17 g, fructose 70mg.
Indications :  Replacement of fluid and electrolyte loss.
Adult Dosage :  Reconstitute contents of 1 sachet in 250 mL water; see literature. 50 - 120mL/kg orally over four to six hours.
Child Dosage :  Stop all foods/feeds for 24 hours and replace with 150mL/kg solution. On second day reduce dose gradually and resume normal feeding. Breastfed infants, give feeding. Breastfed infants, give after breastfeeding.
Contra Indications :  Renal impairment, intestinal obstruction, paralytic ileus.
