| Generic Name : | Trospium |
| Drug description : | Brownish-yellow, glossy coated, biconvex tablets. |
| Presentation : | Tablets, trospium chloride 20mg. |
| Indications : | Treatment of detrusor instability or detrusor hyperreflexia with the symptoms of urinary frequency, urgency and urge incontinence. |
| Adult Dosage : | One tablet twice daily before meals or on an empty stomach. |
| Child Dosage : | Under 12 years, contraindicated. |
| Contra Indications : | Urinary retention, narrow-angle glaucoma, tachyarrhythmia, myasthenia gravis, severe ulcerative colitis, toxic megacolon, dialysed renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance <10mL/minute/1.73m2) and children under 12 years of age. Not recommended in patients with hepatic impairment. |
| Special Precautions : | Obstructive conditions of the gastrointestinal tract (eg, pyloric stenosis), urinary flow obstruction, autonomic obstruction, autonomic neuropathy, hiatus hernia associated with reflux oesophagitis, patients in whom fast heart rates are undesirable (eg, those with hyperthyroidism, coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure). Renal impairment. Exclude heart disease, kidney disease, polydipsia, infections or tumours of urinary organs as causes of urinary symptoms before starting therapy with Regurin. Coeliac disease - Regurin contains wheat starch. Pregnancy and lactation. |
| Interactions : | Anticholinergics (eg, amantadine, tricyclic antidepressants, quinidine, antihistamines, disopyramide), beta- sympathomimetics, pro-kinetic agents (eg, metoclopramide, cisapride). Guar, colestyramine, colestipol. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Dry mouth, dyspepsia, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea. Rarely, micturition disorders, tachycardia, disorders of visual accommodation, diarrhoea, flatulence, dyspnoea, rash, asthenia, chest pain. Also, isolated cases of urinary retention, tachyarrhythmia, angio-oedema, mild to moderate increase in serum transaminase levels. |
