| Presentation : | Solution, lactulose BP 66.3% w/v. |
| Indications : | Chronic constipation, chronic portal systemic encephalopathy (PSE). |
| Adult Dosage : | Contipation: 15 - 30mL daily dor first two to three days (45mL may be given inobstinate cases). Maintenance, 10 -15mL daily or according to needs of patient. PSE: Initially, 30 - 50mL three times daily according to requirements of patient for adequate acidification of stomach contents. |
| Child Dosage : | 10 - 25mL daily for first two to three days. Maintenance, 5 - 15mL daily or according to needs of patient. |
| Contra Indications : | Gastrointestinal obstruction. Galactosaemia or lactose intolerance. |
| Special Precautions : | First trimester of pregnancy. |
| Interactions : | None known. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Abdominal distension or cramps, flatulence. High doses may cause nausea. |
