| Drug description : | 10mg: pink, enteric-coated, bi- convex tablets printed in black on one side with 'E241'; diameter 6.2mm, thickness 3.2mm. 20mg: pale yellow, enteric- coated, bi-convex, printed in brown on one side with 'E243'; diameter 7.2mm, thickness 3.6mm. |
| Presentation : | Tablets, rabeprazole sodium 10 mg , 20 mg . |
| Indications : | Treatment of active duodenal or active benign gastric ulcer, symptomatic erosive or ulcerative gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). Long term maintenance in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). In combination with appropriate antibacterial therapeutic regimens for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcer disease. |
| Adult Dosage : | DU: 20 mg once daily in the morning for 4 - 8 weeks. GU: 20 mg once daily in the morning for 6 - 12 weeks. GORD: 20 mg once daily in the morning for 4 - 8 weeks. GORD maintenance: 10mg or 20mg daily depending on patient response. Eradication of H. pylori : The following combination given for 7 days is recommended: Pariet 20mg twice daily + clarithromycin 500mg twice daily and amoxicillin 1g twice daily. Tablets should be swallowed whole before food. |
| Child Dosage : | Not recommended. |
| Contra Indications : | Pregnancy, lactation. |
| Special Precautions : | Exclude malignancy before impairment. Patients on long term treatment (particularly those treated for more than one year) should be kept under regular surveillance. |
| Interactions : | Ketoconazole, digoxin. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Headache, GI upset, rash, asthenia, dry mouth. |
