Drug details for : NEBCIN
 
Drug class description :  Aminoglycosides.
Generic Name :  Tobramycin
Drug description :  Solution in vials.
Presentation :  Injection, tobramycin (as sulphate) 20, 40 and 80 mg .
Indications :  Treatment of the following infections caused by susceptible micro-organisms: central nervous system infections (including meningitis, septicaemia and neonatal sepsis); gastrointestinal infections (including peritonitis, complicated and recurrent urinary tract infections); lower respiratory tract infections (including pneumonia, bronchopneumonia and acute bronchitis); skin, bone and soft tissue infections (including burns). Tobramycin is usually active against most strains of the following organisms: Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Proteus species (indole positive and indole negative), including Pr. mirabilis, Pr. rettgeri and Pr. vulgaris; Morganella morganii; vulgaris; Morganella morganii; Escherichia coli; Klebsiella- Enterobacter-Serratia species; Citrobacter species; Providencia species; Staphylococci including Staphylococcus aureus (coagulase-positive and coagulase-negative).
Adult Dosage :  3 - 5 mg/kg daily in three or four divided doses by intramuscular injection or intravenous injection or infusion.
Child Dosage :  Neonates, up to 4 mg/kg daily in two equal doses; others, 6 - 7.5 mg/kg daily in three or four divided doses.
Contra Indications :  Pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions :  Renal impairment; control blood levels and dosage.
Interactions :  Other aminoglycosides, loop diuretics, neuromuscular blocking agents.
Adverse Reactions :  Anaphylaxis, ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity. Raised liver enzymes.
