| Drug description : | Pink f-c tablets. |
| Presentation : | Tablets, atovaquone 250 mg , proguanil hydrochloride 100 mg . |
| Indications : | Treatment of acute, uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria where the pathogen is likely to be resistant to other antimalarials. |
| Adult Dosage : | 4 tablets as a single dose for 3 days taken with food or a milky drink at same time each day. |
| Child Dosage : | Under 11 kg, not recommended; 11 - 20 kg, 1 daily; 21 - 30 kg, 2 daily; 31 - 40 kg, 3 daily; over 40 kg, 4 daily. All taken as a single dose for 3 days. |
| Contra Indications : | Lactation. |
| Special Precautions : | Acute renal failure, diarrhoea, vomiting. Pregnancy. Not suitable for P. vivax malaria. |
| Interactions : | Metoclopramide, tetracyclines, rifampicin. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Abdominal pain, headache, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, coughing. |
