| Drug description : | Powder in vials. |
| Presentation : | Powder for injection, ceftazidime (as pentahydrate) 500 mg , 1 g, 2 g. |
| Indications : | Infections of the lower respiratory tract, skin and soft tissues, bone and joints; urinary tract infections, gynaecological infections, intra-abdominal infections, including peritonitis; septicaemia; central nervous sytem infections including meningitis. May also be used alone in cases of confirmed or suspected sepsis. It may also be used concomitantly with other antibiotics, such as aminoglycosides, in severe and life-threatening infections and in the immunocompromised patient. |
| Adult Dosage : | See Summary of Product Characteristics. |
| Child Dosage : | See Summary of Product Characteristics. |
| Contra Indications : | Known hypersensitivity to ceftazidime or cephalosporin antibiotics. |
| Special Precautions : | Penicillin sensitivity. Impaired renal function. Superinfection. Pregnancy and lactation. History of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis. |
| Interactions : | Aminoglycosides, loop diuretics. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Pain at injection site, hypersensitivity reactions. GI disturbances, candidiasis, vaginitis, eosinophilia, neutropenia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, raised liver enzymes and blood urea. Positive Coomb's test. Central nervous system effects, including headache, dizziness, paraesthesia. |
