| Presentation : | Tablets, clarithromycin 500mg. |
| Indications : | Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcers when used with omeprazole or lansoprazole. |
| Adult Dosage : | Triple therapy vs H. pylori , 500 mg twice daily with amoxicillin 1 g twice daily and amoxicillin 1 g twice daily and either omeprazole 40 mg once daily for 7 days or lansoprazole 30 mg twice daily for 7 - 14 days. |
| Child Dosage : | Not applicable. |
| Contra Indications : | Known hypersensitivity to macrolide antibiotics. Concomitant administration with ergot derivatives, cisapride, pimozide or terfenadine. |
| Special Precautions : | Renal or hepatic impairment. Pregnancy, lactation. |
| Interactions : | Cisapride, pimozide, terfenadine, ergot derivatives, theophylline, oral anticoagulants, digoxin, carbamazepine, astemizole, drugs metabolised by P450, ritonavir. |
| Adverse Reactions : | GI upset, paraesthesia, stomatitis, glossitis, oral monilia, tongue and tooth discolouration, headache, arthralgia, myalgia, rash, transient CNS effects, allergic reactions, hepatic dysfunction, reversible hearing loss. Rarely, pseudomembranous colitis, hypoglycaemia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, renal dysfunction, QT prolongation. |
