| Drug class description : | Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (topical NSAIDs). |
| Generic Name : | Ibuprofen |
| Drug description : | Gel. Aqueous-alcoholic, non- greasy, fragrance-free, clear or slightly hazy. |
| Presentation : | Gel, ibuprofen 10%. |
| Indications : | Topical treatment of rheumatic and muscular pain, sprains, strains, backache and neuralgia. Symptomatic relief of pain due to non-serious arthritic conditions. |
| Adult Dosage : | Apply 2 to 5cm of gel (50 to 125mg) to the affected areas up to three times daily. Gently massage into the skin until completely absorbed. Treatment should not normally continue for more than a few weeks. |
| Child Dosage : | Under 12 years, not recommended. |
| Contra Indications : | Sensitivity to any of the ingredients, particularly if patient is asthmatic or suffers from rhinitis or urticaria and has previously shown hypersensitivity to aspirin, hypersensitivity to aspirin, ibuprofen or related painkillers. Not to be used on broken skin. Pregnancy and lactation. |
| Special Precautions : | Active peptic ulcer, history of kidney problems, asthma, intolerance to aspirin or ibuprofen. Wash hands after use. Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes. |
