| Drug description : | Imodium Capsules: dark green/grey capsules marked Imodium and Janssen. Imodium Syrup: sugar-free syrup. |
| Presentation : | Capsules, loperamide hydrochloride 2mg . Syrup, loperamide hydrochloride 1mg per 5mL. |
| Indications : | Diarrhoea. |
| Adult Dosage : | Acute diarrhoea, initially 4 mg, then 2 mg at each loose stool; maximum 16 mg daily. Chronic diarrhoea, initially 4 - 8 mg daily in two divided doses. |
| Child Dosage : | Acute diarrhoea, under 4 years, not recommended; 4 - 8 years, 5 mL three or four times daily for up to 3 days; 9 - 12 years, 1 capsule or 10 mL syrup four times daily for up to 5 days. |
| Contra Indications : | Abdominal distension, ileus, acute ulcerative colitis, pseudomembranous colitis. |
| Special Precautions : | Acute dysentery, hepatic impairment. Pregnancy, lactation. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Abdominal cramps, bloating, paralytic ileus, rashes, constipation, nausea, tiredness, dizziness, dry mouth. |
