| Generic Name : | Insulin lispro, insulin lispro protamine |
| Drug description : | Preloaded pen or 3mL cartridges. Cartridges to be used with a CE marked pen as recommended in the information provided by the device manufacturer. |
| Presentation : | Suspension, 25% insulin lispro and 75% insulin lispro protamine 100 i.u./mL. |
| Indications : | Diabetes mellitus. |
| Adult Dosage : | By subcutaneous injection. Dosage according to individual requirements. May be given shortly before or soon after meals. Onset within 15 minutes, duration approximately 22 hours. |
| Child Dosage : | Under 12 years, should be considered only in case of an expected benefit when compared to regular insulin. |
| Contra Indications : | Hypoglycaemia. Hypersensitivity to insulin lispro or to any of the excipients. |
| Special Precautions : | Patients transferred to human insulin should be advised that the early warning symptoms of hypoglycaemia may be less pronounced than with insulins from an animal source. Dosage adjustments may be required during infection, pregnancy, lactation, emotional distress, change in species of origin, type or purity of insulin. Renal or hepatic impairment. Not to be given intravenously. Refer to Summary of Product Characteristics. |
| Interactions : | Oral contraceptives, corticosteroids, thyroid replacement therapy, danazol, b - agonists, oral hypoglycaemics, 2 salicylates, sulpha antibiotics, certain antidepressants, certain ACE inhibitors, b-blockers, octreotide, alcohol. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Hypoglycaemia. Injection site reactions including lipodystrophy. |
