| Drug description : | Heminevrin Syrup: (5 mL equivalent to 1 capsule). Store at 2-8.C. Do not freeze. Heminevrin Capsules: greyish- brown capsules (1 capsule equivalent to 5 mL syrup). Retain in original container. Store below 25.C. |
| Presentation : | Heminevrin Syrup: Clormethiazole (chlormethiazole) edisylate 250mg per 5mL. Heminevrin Capsules:Clormethiazole (chlormethiazole) 192mg in Miglyol. |
| Indications : | Short term treatment of severe insomnia in the elderly. |
| Adult Dosage : | 1 - 2 capsules or 5 - 10 mL syrup at bedtime. |
| Child Dosage : | Not recommended. |
| Contra Indications : | Acute pulmonary insufficiency. |
| Special Precautions : | Chronic pulmonary insufficiency. Chronic renal or hepatic disease. History of drug or alcohol abuse; must not be prescribed for alcoholics who continue to drink alcohol. Elderly. Pregnancy, lactation. Warn patients of impaired judgement and dexterity. |
| Interactions : | Alcohol, CNS depressants, diazoxide, propranolol, cimetidine. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Nasal congestion and irritation, conjunctival irritation, headache, rash, GI disturbances. Anaphylactic reactions. Sedation, excitement and confusion. |
