| Generic Name : | Rasburicase |
| Drug description : | Powder and solvent for concentrate for solution for infusion. Rasbururicase is a recombinant urate-oxidase enzyme produced by genetically modified Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain. |
| Presentation : | Powder for concentrate for solution for infusion, rasburicase 1.5mg. 1ml of concentrate contains rasburicase 1.5mg. |
| Indications : | Treatment and prophylaxis of acute hyperuricaemia, in order to prevent acute renal failure, in patients with haematological malignancy with a high tumor burden and at risk of a rapid tumor lysis or shrinkage at initiation of chemotherapy. |
| Adult Dosage : | Recommended dose, 0.20mg/kg/day as a once daily 30 minute intravenous infusion in 50ml of 0.9% w/v sodium chloride solution. The duration of treatment may vary between five and seven days. Fasturtec is to be used immediately prior to and during the intiation of chemotherapy only; currently, there are insufficient data to recommend multiple treatment courses. |
| Contra Indications : | Hypersensitivity to uricases or any of the excipients. G6PD deficiency and other cellular metabolic disorders known to cause haemolytic anaemia induced by hydrogen peroxide, rasburicase is contraindicated in patients with these disorders. Pregnancy and lactation. |
| Special Precautions : | To be administered under the supervision of a physician trained in chemotherapy of haematological malignancies. Monitor patients closely for the onset of allergic-type undesirable effects., especially skin allergic reaction or bronchospasm; discontinue treatment if any serious allergic or anaphylactic reaction occurs. History of atopic allergies. Currently, insufficient data to recommend multiple treatment courses. Monitor patients closely for hyperphosphataemia, hyperkalaemia amd hyperuricaemia in the context of myeloproliferative disorders. There are no data available to recommend the sequential use of resburicase and allopurinol. |
| Interactions : | No metabolism studies have been carried out. Drug-drug interactions unlikely. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Most commonly, fever, vomiting, nausea. Uncommonly, diarrhoea, headache, allergic reactions (including bronchospasm), rash. |
