Drug class description :  Antivirals.
Generic Name :  Famciclovir - genital herpes
Drug description :  White f-c tablets.
Presentation :  Tablets, famciclovir 125 mg , 250 mg , 500 mg .
Indications :  Treatment of acute genital herpes infections and suppression of recurrent genital herpes infections in immunocompetent and immunocompromised patients.
Adult Dosage :  First attack, 250 mg three times daily for 5 days started as soon as possible after onset of lesions. In immunocompromised, 500 mg twice daily for 7 days. Recurrent attacks, 125 mg twice daily for 5 days. In immunocompromised, 500 mg twice daily for 7 days. Start treatment during prodromal period or as soon as possible after onset of lesions. Suppression, 250 mg twice daily. In HIV patients, 500 mg twice daily. Interrupt therapy at 6 - 12 month intervals to reassess.
Child Dosage :  Not recommended.
Contra Indications :  Known hypersensitivity to famciclovir or other constituents.
Special Precautions :  Renal impairment. Pregnancy, lactation.
Adverse Reactions :  Headache, nausea. Rarely, vomiting, dizziness, skin rash and confusion.
