Drug class description :  Topoisomerase 1 inhibitors.
Generic Name :  Irinotecan
Drug description :  Solution in vials.
Presentation :  Solution for infusion, irinotecan hydrochloride trihydrate 20 mg / mL.
Indications :  Campto is indicated for the treatment of patients with advanced colorectal cancer: _in combination with 5- fluorouracil and folinic acid in patients without prior chemotherapy for advanced disease _as a single agent in patients who have failed an established 5- fluorouracil containing treatment regimen
Adult Dosage :  350 mg/m2 by intravenous infusion over 30 - 90 minutes every 3 weeks. If patient develops severe neutropenia or severe diarrhoea reduce dose to 300 mg/ m2 and then 250 mg/m 2 in subsequent cycles. Continue treatment until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity.
Child Dosage :  Not recommended. Not recommended.
Contra Indications :  Chronic inflammatory bowel disease, bowel obstruction, hepatic impairment (bilirubin >1.5 times normal), renal impairment, severe myelosuppression, WHO performance status >2. Pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions :  Refer to Summary of Product Characteristics.
Adverse Reactions :  Delayed diarrhoea; warn patient of risk and start high dose loperamide immediately. Neutropenia; monitor neutrophil count, instruct patient to report fever. Anaemia, thrombocytopenia. Liver impairment; perform liver function tests. Nausea, vomiting, acute cholinergic syndrome, asthenia, alopecia, dyspnoea, cramps, paraesthesia.
