| Generic Name : | Doxorubicin |
| Drug description : | Sterile, translucent, red suspension in 10mL or 25mL vials. |
| Presentation : | Infusion, doxorubicin hydrochloride (in pegylated liposomes) 2mg per mL. |
| Indications : | Advanced ovarian cancer in women who have failed a first-line platinum-based chemotherapy regimen. AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) in patients with low CD4 counts (<200 CD lymphocytes/mm3) and extensive mucocutaneous or 4 visceral disease. Caelyx may be used as first-line systemic chemotherapy, or as second line chemotherapy in AIDS-KS patients with disease that has progressed with, or in patients intolerant to, prior combination systemic chemotherapy comprising at least two of the following agents: a vinca alkaloid, bleomycin and standard doxorubicin (or other anthracycline). |
| Adult Dosage : | Caelyx should be administered Caelyx should be administered only under the supervision of a qualified oncologist specialised in the administration of cytotoxic agents. Caelyx exhibits unique pharmacokinetic properties and must not be used interchangeably with other formulations of doxorubicin hydrochloride. Refer to Summary of Product Characteristics. |
| Child Dosage : | Under 18 years, not recommended. |
| Contra Indications : | History of hypersensitivity reactions to components of Caelyx or to doxorubicin. Pregnancy and lactation. Should not be used to treat AIDS Kaposi's sarcoma that may be effectively treated with local therapy or systemic alfa- interferon. |
| Special Precautions : | Cardiac risk, myelosuppression: see Summary of Product Characteristics. Diabetic patients: it should be noted that each vial of Caelyx contains sucrose and is administered in 5% (50mg/mL) glucose intravenous infusion. |
| Interactions : | Caution must be exercised when giving any other cytotoxic agents, especially myelotoxic agents, at the same time. |
| Adverse Reactions : | Leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, anaemia. Refer to Summary of Product Characteristics. |
