Drug details for : ATROVENT
Drug class description :  Anticholinergic bronchodilators (antimuscarinics, anticholinergics).
Generic Name :  Ipratropium bromide
Drug description :  Atrovent: metered dose inhaler. Atrovent Forte: metered dose inhaler. Atrovent UDV: preservative free isotonic solution in unit dose vials (1mL or 2mL) for nebulisation.. Atrovent Autohaler: breath- actuated metered dose aerosol. Atrovent Aerocaps: dark green/ light green capsules containing powder for inhalation, for use in Aerohaler.
Presentation :  Atrovent MDI: Ipratropium bromide 20 microgram per dose. Atrovent Forte: Ipratropium bromide 40 microgram per dose. Atrovent UDV: Ipratropium bromide 250 microgram per mL. Atrovent Autohaler: Ipratropium bromide 20 microgram per dose. Atrovent Aerocaps: Ipratropium bromide 40 microgram .
Indications :  Chronic reversible airways obstruction, particularly in chronic bronchitis.
Adult Dosage :  Atrovent: 1 or 2 puffs three or four times daily. Atrovent Forte: 1 or 2 puffs three or four times daily. Atrovent UDV: 0.4 - 2 mL nebulised up to four times daily. Atrovent Autohaler: 1 or 2 puffs three or four times daily. Atrovent Aerocaps: Contents of 1 or 2 capsules inhaled via the Aerohaler three or four times
Child Dosage :  Atrovent: Under 6 years, 1 puff; 6 - 12 years, 1 or 2 puffs. Both three times daily. Atrovent Forte: Under 6 years, use standard inhaler; 6 - 12 years, usually 1 puff three times daily. Atrovent UDV: Under 3 years, not recommended; over 3 years, 0.4 - 2 mL nebulised up to three times daily. Atrovent Autohaler: Under 6 years, 1 puff; 6 - 12 years, 1 or 2 puffs. Both three times daily. Atrovent Aerocaps: Not recommended.
Contra Indications :  Known hypersensitivity to atropine.
Special Precautions :  Glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy. First nebulised dose should be inhaled under medical supervision (paradoxical bronchospasm has occurred).
Adverse Reactions :  Dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation.
