| Drug description : | Yellow s-c tablets marked GEIGY. |
| Presentation : | Tablets, sulfinpyrazone 100 mg , 200 mg . |
| Indications : | Chronic gout including tophaceous gout, recurrent gouty arthritis, hyperuricaemia. |
| Adult Dosage : | 100 - 200 mg daily with food increasing to 600 mg daily over two or three weeks. Maximum 800 mg daily. Maintenance, reduce to minimum effective dose. |
| Child Dosage : | Not recommended. |
| Contra Indications : | Known hypersensitivity to sulfinpyrazone and other pyrazole derivatives. Acute or history of peptic ulcers. Acute attacks of gout. Severe hepatic or renal dysfunction. Blood dyscrasias. Porphyria. Haemorrhagic diastheses. Anti-inflammatory induced allergies. |
| Special Precautions : | Impaired renal function, nephrolithiasis, renal colic. Latent or overt heart failure. Pregnancy, lactation. Check blood count and renal function regularly. Ensure adequate fluid intake. |
| Interactions : | Salicylates, NSAIDs, anticoagulants, hypoglycaemics, sulphonamides, penicillins, theophylline, phenytoin. |
