Medicine information : ANTEPSIN
 
Drug class description :  Cytoprotectants.
Generic Name :  Sucralfate
Drug description :  Antepsin Tablets: white oblong scored tablets marked ANTEPSIN one side, WY39 on reverse. Antepsin Suspension: suspension.
Presentation :  Antepsin Tablets: Sucralfate 1g . Antepsin Suspension: Sucralfate 1g per 5mL.
Indications :  Duodenal and gastric ulcer, Duodenal and gastric ulcer, chronic gastritis. Prophylaxis of GI haemorrhage from stress ulceration in seriously ill patients (suspension only).
Adult Dosage :  2 g twice daily taken morning and at bedtime, or 1 g four times daily 1 hour before meals and at bedtime. Maximum 8 g daily. Usual treatment period, 4 - 6 weeks or up to 12 weeks in resistant cases. Prophylaxis, 5 mL six times daily; maximum 40 mL daily.
Child Dosage :  Not recommended.
Special Precautions :  Renal impairment.
Interactions :  Leave interval of 2 hours between Antepsin and tetracyclines, quinolones, phenytoin, H - antagonists, ketoconazole, 2 digoxin, warfarin and phenytoin or 1 hour between Antepsin and enteral feeds. Avoid antacids 30 minutes before or after Antepsin.
Adverse Reactions :  Constipation, diarrhoea, GI upset, dry mouth, rash, headache, hypersensitivity reactions.
