Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.

Generic Name :

Generic

Drug description :

Tablets.

Presentation :

Tablets, acetazolamide 250mg . Available from Regent Labs.

Indications :

Oedema.

Adult Dosage :

250mg - 375mg once daily.

Contra Indications :

  • Hepatic disease or insufficiency
  • Hyponatraemia: hypokalaemia
  • Adrenocortical insufficiency,  hyperchloraemic acidosis, severe renal disease or dysfunction
  • Chronic closed angle glaucoma
  •  Hypersensitivity to sulphonamides
  • Pregnancy.

Special Precautions :

Respiratory acidosis
Pulmonary obstruction, Emphysema

Diabetes
Monitor fluid, electrolytes, blood, Lactation.

Interactions :

  • Folic acid antagonists
  • hypoglycaemics
  • oral anticoagulants.

Adverse Reactions :

GI disturbances
Nnausea, vomiting, diarrhoea;

CNS disturbances
Drowsiness, paraesthesia;

Hypersensitivity reactions
Blood dycrasias, flushing, thirst, headache, rash. headache, rash.
