Thrombosis Info

Arterial and venous thrombosis are important causes of death and disability, and the costs associated with their treatment are staggering. Arterial thrombosis causes myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, and limb gangrene. Venous thromboembolism (VTE) leads to phlebitis and pulmonary embolism (PE), which can be fatal, and to the post-thrombotic syndrome, a common long-term complication of venous thrombosis. The Venous Thrombosis disease is by itself the third most common type of cardiovascular disease, causing 500,000 deaths in Europe every year. The level of antithrombotic prophylaxis has increased dramatically during the last 10 years, but some groups of patients are still unprotected due to the lack of knowledge about their VTE risks.

You as a physician, have a chance to contribute to helping protecting patients and to optimise the treatment management in case they develop the disease.
