Treatment

Historical Perspective

Before the introduction of Glivec®, the therapeutic options for CML included allogeneic stem-cell transplantation (SCT), IFN-α administration, or chemotherapy with hydroxyurea or busulphan, as well as experimental therapy. Current recommendations for the management of CML from the European LeukemiaNet and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network emphasise the use of Glivec at 400 mg/d as the preferred initial treatment for most patients with newly diagnosed chronic-phase CML.1
