Other Efficacy Trials

Other studies of eprosartan versus active comparators
Elliott et al (1999) reported the results of a parallel group study in 528 patients with mild-to-moderate essential hypertension who were randomised to receive either eprosartan 400-600mg daily or enalapril 5-20mg daily for 26 weeks.8 HCTZ (12.5-25mg daily) was given to patients whose blood pressure was not adequately controlled at the top dose of either eprosartan or enalapril. Doses were titrated to attain a target of trough sitDBP <90mmHg. Read more...

Studies of eprosartan versus placebo in mild-to-moderate hypertension
Hedner & Himmelmann (1999) reported the results of a 13-week, double-blind, parallel group, placebo-controlled, multicentre study in 243 patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension.50 Eprosartan was given once or twice daily at a dosage of 400-800mg/day, adjusted over the first nine weeks to give the best effect. Patients reaching target blood pressure continued fixed-dose treatment for a further four weeks. Read more...

Efficacy in subgroups of patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension
Older patients
Argenziano & Trimarco (1999) analysed results from an elderly subgroup of patients in the trial by Elliott et al described earlier in 528 patients stratified by age (<65yrs or >65yrs) who received eprosartan 200mg twice daily or enalapril 5mg once-daily.52 Read more...

Long-term study of eprosartan in mild-to-moderate hypertension
Levine (2001) investigated the long-term efficacy of eprosartan monotherapy and eprosartan/HCTZ combination therapy in an open-label, multicentre study of patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension. Patients had either participated in a previous eprosartan study (n=578) or were newly recruited (n=128).54 Read more...

Eprosartan: in combination with other antihypertensive drugs
In practice, the majority of patients with essential hypertension require treatment with more than one antihypertensive agent. Eprosartan has been used in combination with various different types of antihypertensive agent, including thiazide diuretics (such as HCTZ) or ACE inhibitors (such as enalapril). In some countries, a fixed-dose combination of eprosartan with HCTZ is available as Teveten® Plus.     Read more...
