National Service Frameworks

National Service Frameworks (NSFs), developed by the Department of Health in association with external reference groups, set national standards of treatment for particular medical conditions. A rolling programme of NSFs was launched in 1998 and they now cover the following conditions and services: cancer, paediatric intensive care, mental health, coronary heart disease, older people, diabetes and renal services. NSFs are also in preparation for children's services and long-term medical conditions.
