On June 25th, physicians will debate the potential of treating chronic pain by targeting glutamate receptors in the central nervous system and in doing so inhibit the neurotransmitter glutamate.
Chief executive officer and president of TorreyPines Therapeutics company Dr Neil Kurtz, said: "There's a growing body of scientific and clinical evidence that supports the further development of drugs that block the glutamate cascade.
"As the American Headache Society prepares to kick off its 50th Annual Scientific Meeting, we want to provide patients as well as the medical community with industry experts' perspectives as to what is clearly a promising approach for the treatment of migraine and other conditions."
New data presented at the IBC International Conference on Migraine confirmed that a treatment for migraine named Zomig is effective in improving quality of life for migraine sufferers.
According to research, migraine is the most common neurological condition in the developed world, and affects ten to 15 per cent of the global population.
