Researchers at the University of Munster in Germany have disproved the suggestion that left-handedness can be linked to migraines.
A study published in medical journal Cephalalgia found that there is no notable correlation between the frequency of left-handedness in patients who suffer from migraines and those who don't.
These findings contradict earlier reports which suggested that more left-handed people tend to develop migraine than non left-handed people.
Led by Dr Katrin Biehl, the research team investigated the association between migraine and left-handedness by analysing combined data collated from six separate studies.
In total, the studies included 980 migraine patients and 1738 control subjects, with a higher ratio of females to males. The data showed that 7.3 per cent of the migraine patient group and 6.8 per cent of the control favoured the left-hand.
Additionally a report from the Migraine Action Association claimed that some energy-saving light bulbs can act as a trigger for severe headaches and migraines.
Paul Jansen, the charity's director, explained: "For some people a migraine attack can be triggered by fluorescent lights, video screens, stroboscopic effects and flashing lights."
