ONCOVIN
- Drug Class Description
Vinca alkaloids (cytotoxics). - Generic Name
Vincristine - Presentation
Injection, vincristine sulphate 1 mg /mL. - Description
Solution in vial (1mg/1mL or 2mg/ 2mL). - Indications
For intravenous use. Information available suggests Oncovin may be useful either alone or in combination with other oncolytic drugs for the treatment of leukaemias; malignant lymphomas; multiple myeloma; solid tumours; paediatric solid tumours; idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.
- Adult Dosage
For intravenous use only; fatal if given intrathecally.
Should be administered only by individuals experienced in vincristine administration. Recommended dosage is 1.4 - 1.5mg/m 2 intravenously at weekly intervals; maximum weekly dose, 2g.
- Child Dosage
For intravenous use only; For intravenous use only; intrathecal administration usually results in death. Usual dose, 2mg/m2 once a week. For children weighing 10kg or less, starting dose should be 0.5mg/kg once a week.
- Contra Indications
Intrathecal administration. Patients with demyelinating form of Charcot-Marie-Tooth syndrome should not be given vincristine. - Special Precautions
Pregnancy and lactation.
- Interactions
Mitomycin-C, phenytoin, itraconazole and other drugs that inhibit cytochrome P450 CYP 3A enzymes, L-asparaginase.
