ORABASE

Triamcinolone Acetonide Ph.Eur. 0.1% w/w. - Indications
Adcortyl in Orabase is indicated for aphthous ulcers, ulcerative stomatitis, denture stomatitis, desquamative gingivitis, erosive lichen planus and lesions of the oral mucosa of traumatic origin. - Adult Dosage
Adults and Children:
To be applied to the lesion at bedtime and two to four times daily, preferably after meals. Apply to the affected area; do not rub in.
- Elderly Dosage
Corticosteroids should be used sparingly and for short periods of time.
- Contra Indications
In patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the product components.
In tuberculous and most viral lesions of the skin, particularly herpes simplex and varicella. Should not be used in fungal or bacterial infections without suitable concomitant anti-infective therapy.
- Special Precautions
Adrenal suppression can occur with prolonged use of topical corticosteroids or with occlusion. These effects are more likely to occur in infants and children and courses of treatment in childhood should be limited to 5 days. Dentures may act in the same way as an occlusive dressing.
- Adverse Drug Reactions
Triamcinolone acetonide is well tolerated. Where adverse reactions occur they are usually reversible on cessation of therapy.
The possibility of the systemic effects which are associated with all steroid therapy should be considered.
