Local anaesthetics. - Generic Name
Lidocaine [lignocaine], adrenaline (epinephrine) - Presentation
Solution for injection, lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate 24.65mg equivalent to lidocaine base 20mg and adrenaline hydrogen tartrate 25.0 micrograms corresponding to adrenaline 12.5 micrograms. - Description
Solution for injection in cartridges for use in dental-type syringes. - Indications
Local anaesthetic solution with vasoconstrictor for dental infiltration anaesthesia where a vasoconstrictor is indicated. - Contra Indications
Known hypersensitivity to anaesthetics of the amide type. Not for intravenous use. Contraindicated for anaesthesia of the fingers, toes, tip of nose and penis.
- Special Precautions
Epilepsy cardiac disease particularly with arrhythmia or hypertension, impaired respiratory function, thyrotoxicosis, hypovolaemia, acute porphyria and impaired hepatic function. Pregnancy and lactation. Avoid accidental intravascular injection.
- Interactions
Tricyclic antidepressants. - Adverse Drug Reactions
Reactions primarily of two types, typified by stimulation and depression of the cerebral cortex and medulla, respectively. Slow onset - stimulation leading to nervousness, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, tremor, convulsions and respiratory arrest. Rapid onset - depression leading primarily to respiratory arrest, cardiovascular collapse and cardiac arrest.
