Carbimazole - Presentation
Tablets, carbimazole 5 mg , 20 mg . - Description
Pink tablets marked Neo 5 or Neo 20. - Indications
Thyrotoxicosis. - Adult Dosage
Initially, 20 - 60 mg daily in two or three divided doses until patient is euthyroid.
Maintenance, 5 - 15 mg daily for 6 - 18 months. Alternatively, continue with 20 - 60 mg daily and supplemental thyroxine (levothyroxine) 50 - 150 micrograms daily for 6 - 18 months.

Initially, 15 mg daily in divided doses. - Contra Indications
Lactation. Previous history of adverse reactions to carbimazole. - Special Precautions
Liver disorders. Pregnancy.
- Interactions
Radio-iodine. - Adverse Drug Reactions
Rashes, GI upset, headache, arthralgia, alopecia. Bone marrow depression - advise patients to inform you of sore throats, mouth ulcers, pyrexia; withdraw drug. Liver disorders; withdraw drug. Rarely reported, pancytopenia/ aplastic anaemia and isolated thrombocytopenia.
