Tablets, amobarbital (amylobarbitone) 50mg . - Description
White tablets coded T37. - Indications
Short term treatment of severe, intractable insomnia, in patients habituated to barbiturates.
- Adult Dosage
100 - 200 mg at bedtime. - Child Dosage
Not recommended.
- Contra Indications
Uncontrolled pain, young adults, the elderly and debilitated, pregnancy, lactation, patients with a history of alcohol or drug abuse, acute intermittent porphyria.
- Special Precautions
Liver disorders, renal impairment, severe pulmonary insufficiency. Tolerance and dependence may develop. - Interactions
Coumarin-type anticoagulants. Alcohol and other CNS depressants. Systemic steroids (including oral contraceptives). Griseofulvin, rifampicin, phenytoin, metronidazole and chloramphenicol.
- Adverse Drug Reactions
Hangover with drowsiness, dizziness, ataxia, respiratory depression, hypersensitivity reactions, headache, paradoxical excitement and confusion.
