KABIKINASE

Streptokinase - Presentation
Infusion, streptokinase 250,000 units ; 750,000 units ; 1.5 million units . - Description
Powder in vials. - Indications
Deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, acute arterial thromboembolism, acute myocardial infarction, clotted haemodialysis shunts.
- Adult Dosage
Intravascular administration: initially 600,000 i.u. over 30 - 60 minutes, maintenance, 100, 000 i.u. hourly for 3 - 6 days. Acute M.I., 1 .5 million i.u. by intravenous infusion over 1 hour. Haemodialysis shunts.
- Child Dosage
Titrate initially; maintenance, 1300 - 1400 i.u./kg body-weight/ hour for 3 - 6 days. See data sheet. Not recommended in acute M.I. - Contra Indications
Allergy to streptokinase, recent streptokinase therapy (5 days to 6 months previously), severe liver or kidney damage. Recent haemorrhage or CVA, fibrinolysis and uncontrolled bleeding disorders, haemorrhagic diathesis, severe hypertension, streptococcal infections, subacute bacterial endocarditis. Recent surgery, bleeding tendencies. Pregnancy.
- Special Precautions
Obtain haemostatic status of patient before starting therapy. Follow up with anticoagulant therapy; see data sheet. Haemorrhagic retinopathy. - Interactions
Anticoagulants, drugs affecting platelet function. - Adverse Drug Reactions
Hypotension, arrhythmias. Febrile reactions, anaphylaxis (rare), polyneuropathy, uveitis. Haemorrhage.
